History
Founded in 1925 by Ralph Richards, Richards Typesetting grew quickly into one of the Chicago area's original hot metal typographers. The company became a pioneer as a woman-owned and operated business in the 1930's when Agnes Richards took over after the death of her husband, Ralph. She was joined by her son, Harry, in 1949. In the 1960's, offset printing and folding capabilities were added. During the 1980's, Steve, Kevin, and Mike Richards along with Mary Richards Lawrence ushered in the era of electronic publishing and digital proofing. They also expanded the company's services with a new six-color press and a booklet stitcher in the bindery. As Internet technology came into practical use in the mid-nineties, they formed Richards Network Solutions, Inc. to serve the expanding needs of clients for electronic communications. Today, the two companies form one of the most knowledgeable full-service graphic communications resources in the Midwest.
